CASE STUDY — Carina
~ Carina was working as a house cleaner when she lost work back in February of 2020, due to the social distancing restrictions put into place as a result of COVID-19.
~ Shortly after her unemployment began, Carina filed an unemployment claim with the EDD.
~ Instead of receiving her unemployment benefits, Carina was put into ID Verification, a stage which is notoriously difficult to overcome, as contacting the EDD and actually getting to speak with someone can take hours of trying and waiting on hold.
~ Once Carina had finally gotten ahold of an EDD specialist, she was told to send in her ID documents, which she of course complied with.
~ After not hearing back from the EDD, Carina tried getting in contact with the EDD, and after days of trying, she got in touch with a specialist who informed her that she would have to wait a minimum of six weeks, or until the end of June for her ID documents to be reviewed.
~ Fortunately for Carina, a friend told her about the Relief Consultants and that they had helped with getting her full benefits after she had found herself in EDD’s ID Verification bottleneck.
~ Carina was intrigued and reached out to the Relief Consultants to schedule an appointment and explain her case.
~ Once Carina was set up with Stephanie, a seasoned Relief Consultant who had dealt with similar situations, they called the EDD together only to find that the time limit to submit the ID documents had expired, and thus Carina was disqualified.
~ To overcome the unemployment disqualification, Stephanie helped Carina file an appeal, and from there they waited for Carina’s unemployment hearing which had been set all the way out to September.
~ After winning the unemployment hearing, they each thought the work had been done. Turns out, they were wrong.
~ Carina’s claim had no money, as she did not have W2 wages, and Stephanie helped Carina read just her claim from a UI to a PUA claim. Unfortunately the EDD and ruling judge did not allow this change, as Carina had submitted a full statement on her UI claim.
~ After about 20 calls to 20 EDD tier 2 specialists, the full statement was lifted, but Carina’s claim was sent to UISSD as a potential fraud case.
~ It took Stephanie and Carina another 50 calls and countless hours with EDD tier 2 specialists, but finally, a few months later, Carina’s UISSD hold was lifted.
In early December of 2020, Carina received her benefit card with $20,000.
